Product Review – Jesse’s Girl Nail Polish

Ohh, Rite Aid… the things you do to me.

My local Rite Aid just went through a major facelift, adding a nail bar right inside the front door, which was shining like a beacon in the night when I popped in to pick up a prescription the other day. I tried to tame the beast inside, but I was drawn to a neon candy coral color hanging out on the shelf and it was a new brand I’d never heard of, so I had to give it a shot.

Worst.

Decision.

Ever.

At $2.99, the Jesse’s Girl polish (in Carolina Beach) seemed worth a shot and I couldn’t stop thinking about how awesome the color was going to look for my upcoming beach trip.

Perfect beach color, amiright?

Wrong.

It had a super strange application, almost chunky. I had to apply three coats to get a solid color, and even then it was a little spotty. I will say that it did dry pretty quickly, but that’s about all it had going for it. After three coats, I applied a shiny topcoat to combat the matte finish. (Sidebar: I’m not even sure the finish is supposed to be matte… I just… ugh.) The polish lasted until about 10 AM, after I had showered, cooked breakfast, and did a load of laundry… the tips started to chip almost immediately. Not just little chips, but like, BIG chips, almost making it look like I had a cheap french manicure.

Right after application. See the unevenness?

Chips this morning. Yuck.

I’m devastated.. I really loved the color and the price point was key. I know you get what you pay for, but I’ve found success with similarly priced drugstore brand polishes. This might be better suited for a summery toe color that you don’t need to last forever.

Guess I won’t be Jesse’s girl any time soon.
